First and foremost, our GSPs are our companions. They are a big part of the family and reside in our home, thus putting to rest the old myth; “A hunting dogs place is outside in a kennel”.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is highly affectionate, loyal and bonds closely with their owners. For this reason, we feel that the best place for a GSP is when it is allowed to live in the home with its family. We will not sell a puppy to anyone who plans to confine it exclusively to a kennel run or backyard. We want to be sure our dogs/puppies remain happy, loving family members for life not thoughtlessly abandoned when the cuteness or usefulness wears off.
All of our puppies are whelped and raised in the home, well socialized and properly introduced to birds before going to their perspective homes. At the time of purchase each new owner is provided with necessary forms for AKC registration, a pedigree and a health record (vaccination/de-worming). We offer a five (5) day health guarantee, during which time we ask new owners to have the puppy examined by a qualified licensed veterinarian of their choice. The buyer may return the puppy for any reason during this five (5) day period for a full refund.
All of our dogs/puppies sold as hunting partners or pets are considered unsuitable for showing or breeding, therefore they are sold on an AKC Limited Registration. Limited Registration constitutes the dog/puppy ineligible to compete in AKC conformation events. They may compete in other AKC events, such as hunting tests, field trials, agility, obedience and Rally. With limited registration no offspring may be registered with the American Kennel Club, therefore, we strongly recommend that these individuals be spayed or neutered by a qualified licensed veterinarian at the appropriate age.
Each of our German Shorthaired Pointers is certified free of hip dysplasia, cardiac and eye abnormalities by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF). Our dogs are DNA profiled.
Our contract guarantees that if any of our dogs/puppies develop a debilitating hereditary disease, it will be replaced with a puppy of comparable quality from another litter. It further guarantees that puppies sold as "Show prospects" will be free of disqualifying faults as described in the American Kennel Club standard for the breed.
In most instances we do not require co-ownership on our dogs/puppies. However, an exceptional dog/puppy may be sold by PointABird GSPs that warrants us to request a co-ownership agreement.
Beauty, Intelligence, and versatility are what defines this breed and makes it so popular today. However, the German Shorthaired Pointer is an active breed and therefore not for everyone. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the breed history and characteristics before making a decision to purchase a GSP. We want you to be absolutely sure that purchasing a German Shorthaired Pointer is the right choice for you and your family.
